What 𗇡 means
Scholars have not agreed on a reliable English gloss as of 2026.
Emperor Li Yuanhao of Western Xia ordered Tangut writing in 1036. It served government and Buddhist texts and marked the kingdom's distinct identity alongside neighboring Song China. The script drew on Chinese and Khitan writing, but did not derive from Chinese writing.
The Tangut sound dictionary Tóngyīn, from the 12th century, is the earliest cited witness for 𗇡. Scholars reconstruct its pronunciation differently. The inner component 𘠛, catalogued as Tangut Component-028, shows how 𗇡 is built, not its full meaning.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗇡 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.

𗇡\171E1Why is 𗇡 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
