What 𗈠 means
The Unicode label identifies the entry; Tangut context supplies its meaning.
The code-chart label “Tangut Ideograph-17220” is an inventory name, not a Tangut word or pronunciation. To learn how 𗈠 was read or what word it wrote, you need a dictionary entry or the sentence around it.
The Tangut script was promulgated in 1036 for official and cultural life in Western Xia, a state in what is now northwestern China. Its literature included Buddhist translations.
How did Tangut writing outlast Western Xia?
Buddhist use carried the script beyond the state.
Western Xia fell in 1227, but Tangut writing continued in Buddhist materials. Tangut dhāraṇī pillars—stone columns inscribed with Buddhist formulas—dated 1502 show this later religious use.
Tangut writing drew on structural ideas used in Chinese characters and developed in the same medieval region as Khitan and Jurchen scripts. Those links describe script design and regional history; they do not supply a meaning for 𗈠.
