What 𗈺 means
It means “ore” in Tangut.
The earliest surviving character-specific reference is in Homophones, a 12th-century Tangut work that grouped words by sound.
The Tangut script, also called Xixia script, was created about 1036 under the first emperor of Western Xia to write Tangut and support state and religious life. Its texts include official, private, and religious works, including translations of Buddhist and Chinese texts. After Western Xia fell, the script remained in use under the Yuan and Ming dynasties but became obsolete by the end of the Ming.
How can I type 𗈺?
Use a Tangut-specific input method.
As of 2026, dedicated Tangut tools offer searches by strokes, components, four-corner codes, and reconstructed readings. Chinese pinyin is not a dependable route: Tangut readings are scholarly reconstructions, not a standard Mandarin input spelling.
Why does 𗈺 look different in different fonts?
The font shapes the display; the encoded character remains 𗈺.
Historical Tangut sources record variant glyph shapes. A font without Tangut coverage may show a missing-glyph box instead; that fallback does not change the character in the text.
Historical and specialist: 𗈺 reads as Tangut text or a reference to the script.
Without Tangut context, a recipient may not know what the character says.

Questions people ask
2Is 𗈺 a Chinese character?
No. Tangut is a distinct script for the Tangut language. Its shapes can look Chinese-style, but 𗈺 is not a variant of a Chinese character.
Does a box prove that 𗈺 is wrong?
No. A missing-glyph box usually means the font lacks Tangut coverage; the text can still contain the correct character.
