What 𗉟 means
A dictionary from the 12th century gives it as “cat.” A preserved Tangut proverb uses the character the same way.
The Tangut script was devised in 1036 to write the Tangut language. Western Xia (Xixia), the Tangut state, used it for official documents and Buddhist translations from 1038–1227. Its forms drew on Chinese characters, but Tangut is a separate script for a different language.
