What 𗍌 means
It means “to swallow” in Tangut.
Two dictionaries from the 12th century record it as a verb. Scholars reconstruct its Tangut pronunciation as dźjwij¹ or ¹jwe₃.
It is assembled from three Tangut components rather than drawn as a swallowing figure.
Why was the Tangut script created?
To write Tangut and reinforce Western Xia’s state identity.
Established in 1036, it served state records and Buddhist translations. Chinese writing influenced its design; Khitan influence has been proposed but is less certain.

1Why does 𗍌 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
