865/6136

𗍠 is a Tangut character, but its exact English meaning remains unresolved as of 2026. The medieval Wénhǎi dictionary records it; Tangut writing served Western Xia state records and translations, then continued in Buddhist texts after the state fell. A Tangut-capable font is needed to display this historical text character.

What 𗍠 means

Its exact English meaning is unresolved. As of 2026, Tangut lexicographic records identify 𗍠 but provide no secure English gloss.

The earliest surviving Tangut document is an official dispatch dated 1072. The 12th-century Wénhǎi (“Sea of Writing”), a Tangut dictionary, lists 𗍠 at entry 21.143; that entry records the graph but does not supply an English equivalent.

The Tangut script was disseminated around 1036 under Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao for state records and translations; Chinese writing remained in use alongside it.

Use 𗍠 as evidence of Tangut writing

After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued in Buddhist and other texts. A 1502 inscription shows the script outlasted the dynasty. That later history tells us where Tangut was written, not the word represented by 𗍠.

Tangut developed in a writing environment influenced by Chinese. Some scholars also propose influence from Khitan small script, a separate historical script, but that link is debated. Neither script-level connection identifies a matching or related glyph for 𗍠.

Historical and scholarly; outside a Tangut text or discussion, it reads as an unfamiliar script character.

Don’t assign it a guessed Chinese word.

Why is 𗍠 a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
