What 𗎬 means
Its exact English meaning remains unsettled as of 2026.
𗎬 is a written sign, or graph, in the Tangut script, made to write the now-extinct Tangut language. Scholars reconstruct its pronunciation differently, so their proposed readings do not supply an English meaning.
Two 12th-century Tangut dictionaries, Wénhǎi (Sea of Writing) and Tóngyīn (Homophones), include the character.
Is 𗎬 Chinese or Tangut?
It is Tangut; its script was modeled on Chinese writing.
The Tangut script was created around 1036 under the first emperor of Western Xia, a kingdom in northwestern China, to write the Tangut language. It is a distinct script used for official, private, and Buddhist texts.
Historical and specialist in tone; a standalone use fits Tangut study or font testing, not casual chat.
Don't read it as a Chinese message or a mood cue.
Drift: After Western Xia fell, Tangut writing survived in scholarship and Buddhist monuments. Two Baoding pillars dated 1502 are the latest datable Tangut material known.
