What 𗏂 means
Li Fanwen’s dictionary lists 𗏂 as a surname entry.
In the Tangut index, Li Fanwen (LFW) numbers it 2488 and groups it under “a surname.” Scholars reconstruct its reading as lju̱: j is the y-like glide in English “yes,” and the underline marks a vowel articulated farther back in the throat.
Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao commissioned the Tangut script in 1036. One likely aim was a Tangut edition of the Buddhist canon; a native script also distinguished the kingdom from Song China. Its visual forms and writing principles were inspired by Chinese writing, but Tangut was not derived from it.
