What 𗏁 means
Rime Xunpin enters Tangut through reconstructed readings, strokes, or Four Corner codes.
Its phonetic mode uses a scholarly reconstruction written in Latin letters; the other modes use stroke sequences or shape-based codes. The scheme documented as of 2026 offers all three, and a Tangut-capable font is needed to see the result.
What does 𗏁 mean?
It is the Tangut numeral for five.
Tangut writing was created in 1036 for Western Xia state-building; a major intended purpose was producing a Tangut Buddhist canon, a collection of Buddhist scriptures. Its characters drew on Chinese forms and composition principles without deriving from the Chinese script.
A manuscript page found at Khara-Khoto in Inner Mongolia is thought to date to the 12th or early 13th century. After the 13th-century Mongol conquest, the Tangut language disappeared from daily use; later, a bilingual word list called the Pearl in the Palm helped scholars decipher the writing.
Historical and specialist; readers unfamiliar with Tangut may need a sentence of context.
Without Tangut font coverage, the reader may see a missing-glyph box.
