What 𗐆 means

A Tangut dictionary glosses 𗐆 as “you.”

A scholarly reconstruction writes its reading in the notation tśjọ¹.

Why was Tangut writing created?

To mark a distinct state and translate Buddhist texts.

In 1036, the Tangut court commissioned the script. Its visual principles drew on Chinese writing; the neighboring Khitan people offered a precedent for a state-backed script.

Surviving texts include Buddhist and secular translations, Confucian works, encyclopedias, military treatises and literature. One surviving manuscript is probably from the 12th or early 13th century.

Why does 𗐆 show as a box?

It is a font issue: a device whose active font lacks Tangut font support may show 𗐆 as a missing-glyph box; that does not change the character.
