What 𗑽 means
Read 𗑽 within a Tangut word or passage. Tangut characters combine sound and meaning, so a reconstructed pronunciation is not an English translation.
The script was developed in the 11th century for Western Xia, a Tangut state, and used for administration, Buddhist translation, records, and printing. It drew on Chinese and Khitan writing models; that broad influence does not make 𗑽 a Chinese or Khitan character.
After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued in manuscripts. As of 2026, the latest known Tangut inscription dates to 1502.

1Why does 𗑽 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
