What 𗓺 means
The Tangut court promulgated it in 1036 for official use.
The script uses square forms shaped by Chinese characters, but writes Tangut, a separate language. It served official and cultural needs, including state records and translations. The earliest surviving dated Tangut document is an official record from 1072.
Tangut writing continued after Western Xia fell in 1227. A Buddhist statue inscription from Dunhuang is dated 1348, and a public stone column carries an inscription from 1502.
