What 𗕀 means

Tangut was the language of the Western Xia, a kingdom in what is now northwestern China. Its square writing system took visual cues from Chinese and Khitan writing, another script used by a neighboring people, but records Tangut words. It began in the early 11th century for official correspondence and later carried Buddhist translations, laws, and literature. The latest known Tangut inscription dates to 1502.

The Unicode label “Tangut Ideograph-17540” is built from the character’s computer ID; it identifies the glyph, not its Tangut meaning.
