What 𗕏 means
It is glossed as loss or damage in Tangut. A Tangut dictionary index uses the traditional Chinese character 損 as its gloss, pointing to that range rather than an interchangeable spelling or a guaranteed word-for-word translation.
Why was Tangut writing created?
It gave Western Xia a script for its language and state. Tangut writing was developed under Western Xia’s first emperor around 1036. The early state project included a Buddhist canon in Tangut; surviving texts also include translations of Chinese works, religious writings, inscriptions and manuscripts.
Tangut writing continued under Yuan and Ming rule after Western Xia fell to Mongol conquest, then became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty. Today, this character is encountered in historical texts and scholarship.
Historical and lexical; to a reader without Tangut, it is opaque rather than a ready-made chat reaction.
If the recipient does not read Tangut, give the gloss in words.
