What 𗕬 means
The entry pairs a reading with a Chinese gloss. Specialists write its reconstructed Tangut reading as shy in Latin letters; the gloss uses 琢, meaning “carve or polish.” The spelling shy labels the reading, not the English adjective.
Tangut writing was created in 1036 for Western Xia state-building, Buddhist translation, and political identity. It drew on Chinese writing principles and earlier Khitan state scripts while remaining distinct. A Khara-khoto Tangut manuscript is probably from the 12th or early 13th century.
Unicode 16.0 describes source-based glyph variants for Tangut, so fonts may show different shapes for the same encoded character.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗕬 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
