Use Tangut-capable Unicode input or code-point entry.
Where an app allows direct Unicode code-point input, enter U17573; otherwise use an input method with Tangut coverage.
If a box appears, the text may be encoded correctly while the selected font lacks a Tangut glyph.
What does 𗕳 mean?
𗕳 is a Tangut verb glossed “to change.”
Its number-based computer name identifies the encoded character; it is not a translation of the Tangut word.
The history of the Tangut script begins around 1036, when it was created for state-building in Western Xia (Xixia). It served official and religious writing, including a Buddhist canon and texts translated from Chinese, and supported a distinct Tangut identity. The script was influenced by Chinese and neighboring Khitan writing but remained separate. A manuscript from Khara-Khoto probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century; the latest known Tangut inscription dates to 1502.
Its natural setting is historical Tangut-language material and script study.
