tangut ideograph-1763b

Tangut character 1763B

1596/6136

𗘻 writes a Tangut word glossed as “a sorrowful sigh”; it is a text character from a historical language, not an emoji. Tangut script was introduced in 1036 to write the Tangut language for the Western Xia (Xixia) state, using Chinese character structure in a distinct system. It later carried official records, Buddhist texts, and other books; a surviving inscription dated 1502 shows the script outlasted the dynasty.

What 𗘻 means

Li Fanwen’s dictionary reconstructs its reading as djọ¹.

The dot under o and superscript ¹ belong to the scholarly transcription; the superscript marks tone. This is a reconstructed Tangut pronunciation, not an English word.
