tangut ideograph-17647

Tangut character

1608/6136

𗙇 is a character in Tangut writing, also called Xixia writing, a Chinese-influenced system for the Tangut language. Unicode sorts it under index character 𘡢; that filing link is not a translation. Tangut writing served Western Xia government and Buddhist texts; its earliest surviving document dates to 1072, and Buddhist pillars bearing Tangut writing from 1502 show the script outlasted the state. A Tangut-capable font is needed to display it.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𗙇 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
