What 𗙎 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “information.” Scholars reconstruct its historical reading as dźjiw.
Why was Tangut created?
It began as a Western Xia state project. Emperor Li Yuanhao ordered the script to support Buddhist scripture translations and a distinct Tangut identity. Its square characters were inspired by Chinese writing but did not derive from it; the neighboring Khitan people had their own scripts. Tangut was used for official and legal records, Buddhist writings, and Chinese works translated into Tangut. A Khara-Khoto manuscript is probably from the 12th or early 13th century. Writing continued after Western Xia fell; the latest known inscription is dated 1502.

1Why does 𗙎 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
