𗛉 is a Tangut character glossed as “a kind of tree.” It belongs to Western Xia’s historical script, not Chinese; font support affects whether it appears and how it is drawn.

Text symbol

What 𗛉 means

It is glossed as “a kind of tree.” Li Fanwen’s Tangut entry L4213 names no species. Created under Western Xia around 1036 for the Tangut language, the script served official, private, and religious writing. It remained in use under the Yuan and Ming dynasties before falling out of use. The mid-12th-century Sea of Characters, a Tangut dictionary, analyzed characters through components. A component breakdown puts 𘡩 above 𘢍 enclosing 𘡹; it describes structure, not a specific tree.

Historical Tangut character, relevant when reading or quoting Tangut texts.

Font differences can change its drawing or leave a blank; its identity stays the same.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𗛉 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
