What 𗛒 means
It means “jackal,” a wild dog-like animal.
The English index to Li Fanwen’s Tangut dictionary lists entry 4181 as “jackal.” The reconstructed Tangut pronunciation for 𗛒 is khu: an aspirated k (a k followed by a puff of air), then u. This is a pronunciation, not an English translation.
It belongs to Western Xia’s written history
The Tangut script was devised around 1036 under the supervision of Li Yuanhao, the first emperor of Western Xia, for official writing in the state he founded. Western Xia lasted 1038–1227, but Tangut writing continued under later Yuan and Ming rule. Surviving Tangut texts include Buddhist translations and other works; 𗛒 belongs to that written tradition.
