What 𗛑 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “happiness.”
Tangut was the language of Western Xia, a state in what is now northwestern China.
Is 𗛑 Chinese writing?
No. It belongs to the Tangut script.
The Western Xia court introduced Tangut writing around 1036 for official correspondence; Buddhist translations and books followed.
Tangut characters borrow the square, stroke-built look of Chinese writing, but 𗛑 belongs to a separate script. After Western Xia fell, the script persisted in Yuan and Ming texts before falling out of use by the end of the Ming dynasty.
