What 𗜼 means
It is a Tangut character translated as “bowl.” An English index to Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese dictionary lists entry 4147 as “bowl”; that is the meaning of the word written with this character.
Tangut was the script used to write the Tangut language. Also known as Xixia, it was created under the first Western Xia emperor, around 1036. Western Xia was a kingdom in what is now northwestern China. Tangut appears in government, private, and religious writing. It remained in use through the Yuan and Ming periods and became obsolete by the end of the Ming.
The script was rediscovered in the late 19th century. Work by linguist N. A. Nevskij in the early 20th century helped scholars decipher it.
Is Tangut Chinese?
No. Tangut is a separate script for the Tangut language.
Some of its forms resemble Chinese characters, but the Unicode Standard describes Tangut as unique and unrelated to Chinese ideographs. The resemblance is visual; Tangut words are written in their own script.
Historical and specialist; alone, it is best read as a Tangut sample until its context is clear.
