What 𗝷 means
Its gloss is “fruit of the Chinese wolfberry.”
𗝷 is a word in Tangut, also called Xixia, a historical script used for the Tangut language. Western Xia emperor Li Yuanhao ordered the script in 1036 as part of building the state. Tangut writing served Buddhist texts and translations of Chinese works.
Khara-Khoto was a Tangut city whose ruins preserved many texts. A surviving manuscript probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. Tangut books also carried translated Confucian classics, encyclopedias, military works, and literature.
How do I type 𗝷?
Use a Tangut input method or character lookup.
A Tangut scheme for RIME, a customizable input-method framework, can enter characters through reconstructed Latin spellings, strokes, or four-corner codes based on character shape. Browser tools can search by an English gloss or handwriting, or use a loaded RIME dictionary.
Why does 𗝷 show as a box?
The device or app may lack a Tangut font.
As of 2026, fonts such as Noto Serif Tangut support the script, but a phone or app without suitable Tangut font coverage may show a box. That is a display failure; the text can still contain 𗝷.
It points to historical Tangut writing; its goji gloss is specialized vocabulary.
Without Tangut context, a recipient may miss that it means wolfberry fruit.
