What 𗞞 means
It only makes sense with the verb that follows.
In Tangut grammar, scholars transcribe 𗞞 as dja²-. This prefix is usually a perfective marker: it presents an action as finished or a state as changed. A restricted set of combinations permits an ongoing reading, so the same written form can describe continuation from the past. Modern grammatical analysis sees a range from outward-directional meaning to an opaque aspect marker; do not translate the glyph by itself.
How was 𗞞 used?
It was one working part of a state writing system.
𗞞 was not an isolated invention: it belongs to Tangut, a script created around 1036 under Western Xia’s first emperor. For Tangut as a whole, the earliest transmitted document is an official record dated 1072. 𗞞 itself appears in British Library manuscript Or.12380/3911, where a Tibetan phonetic gloss corresponds to dja.
That system served official, private, and religious writing, including translations of the Buddhist canon and Chinese classics. After Western Xia fell to the Mongols in 1227, Tangut continued in Yuan and Ming settings; a 1502 inscription is among the latest known examples. Its Chinese-looking strokes reflect influence, not descent: Tangut remained a separate script, while neighboring Khitan scripts supplied a state-script precedent.
Why does 𗞞 look different in fonts?
Different fonts can show the same character in different styles.
Regular, running, and cursive Tangut hands all appear in source material, and Unicode unifies some variant shapes for encoding. If a font lacks Tangut coverage, you may see a box or fallback mark; that is a rendering failure, not a new meaning. When checking a manuscript image, do not identify 𗞞 by silhouette alone: small stroke differences can separate characters.
Historical, linguistic, and specialist; in a modern message, it signals Tangut text or scholarly reconstruction.
Read it with the following verb; a lone glyph has no reliable English translation.

3Questions people ask
2Can I use 𗞞 in a modern message?
You can, but it will read as a specialist Tangut reference rather than a general chat symbol. Add surrounding Tangut text or a gloss for readers who do not study the script.
Why can 𗞞 mark completion and continuation?
It can. The written form is shared by the usual completed or resulting reading and a restricted continuing reading; the verb and context decide which fits.
