What 𗟡 means
Its exact meaning depends on the Tangut source. Li Fanwen's Tangut dictionary records two entries under this same encoded character, with different meanings and pronunciations reconstructed from historical evidence. The glyph alone cannot tell you which entry a text intends; check the surrounding Tangut passage and the dictionary being used.
Tangut writing was created under Western Xia rule around 1036 to support the state and translate Buddhist scriptures into Tangut. It carried official, private, and religious texts, including translations from Chinese and Tibetan. Tangut remained in use into the Yuan and Ming dynasties, then became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty. As of 2024, scholars chiefly study Tangut as a historical writing system.
What does 𗟡 mean when someone sends it?
A bare glyph cannot reveal the sender's intended entry. If someone sends 𗟡 alone, you can identify it as a Tangut character, but not which of those two entries they mean. Ask for the surrounding passage or the dictionary source.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗟡 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
