What 𗟪 means

A Tangut–Chinese dictionary pairs it with 赦, “pardon.”

That Chinese character is a translation gloss, not another spelling of 𗟪.

When did Tangut writing begin?

Western Xia made it official in 1036.

Ruler Li Yuanhao and official Yeli Renrong are linked to its creation. It gave Tangut a state script and a distinct identity from Song China. Its square forms drew on Chinese writing; neighboring Khitan states had made scripts for their languages. Officials, schools, and Buddhist translators used it. Religious texts continued after Mongol forces ended Western Xia in 1227.
