What 𗠄 means

It's a Tangut character, not a Chinese word.

Unicode's label is an inventory identifier, not a translation. Tangut is separate from Chinese.

Why did Xixia create Tangut writing?

To write Tangut for the state.

Li Yuanhao ordered it around 1036 for government and a distinct state identity. By 1038, Western Xia was translating Buddhist scripture; Tangut also carried secular works translated from Chinese.

After the state fell, Tangut writing continued under Yuan and Ming rule, then became obsolete by the Ming dynasty's end. Nearby Khitan scripts may have influenced it; Chinese influence is clearer.

Why is 𗠄 showing as a box?

Your font may lack Tangut coverage.

Use a font made for Tangut, such as Noto Serif Tangut.

1

Why does 𗠄 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
