What 𗡎 means
In Tangut, it means “odour” or “scent.”
The reconstructed sound is close to “lee”; scholars write it as li², with the raised 2 marking a Tangut tone.
Read it as a historical Tangut word unless the sender gives another clue; the glyph alone does not tell you they mean a joke or reaction.
Why was the Tangut script created?
Western Xia created it for state writing and Buddhist learning.
The Tangut script was developed under Emperor Li Yuanhao, who ordered its creation in 1036. It gave Western Xia official writing and a distinct written identity beside Song China.
Surviving manuscripts from the mid-eleventh to early thirteenth centuries include Buddhist texts, law codes, and translations of Chinese and Tibetan works. Tangut writing was influenced by Chinese models but was not derived from Chinese; the earlier Khitan scripts, another regional writing tradition, also offered a precedent.
Scholarly and historical; without Tangut context, it reads as an unfamiliar character.
Do not send it alone expecting “smell” to be understood.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗡎 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
