What 𗡖 means
No. Scholars reconstruct ke as the character’s Tangut sound, not its English translation.
Unicode, the computer-text standard, builds Tangut character names from their assigned numbers, so “TANGUT IDEOGRAPH-17856” is an index label, not a gloss. The Xixia script wrote Tangut, a language distinct from Chinese.
Why did Xixia create a Tangut script?
To write Tangut and signal cultural independence.
Xixia (Western Xia) was a Tangut-led state in northwest China. Yeli Renrong designed its national script in 1036, partly to signal cultural independence. Its square forms borrowed Chinese character shapes and ways of combining parts, but wrote Tangut, a separate language.
Officials used it for records and Buddhist works. After Xixia fell in 1227, a Tangut Buddhist book was printed in 1247; a 1502 inscription is the latest known trace.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗡖 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
