What 𗡝 means
It contributes a Tangut syllable to a Buddhist name. The two-character form 𗷅𗡝 corresponds to Chinese 釋迦, “Śākyamuni”; 𗡝 is the second character and corresponds to 迦. Scholars reconstruct its historical pronunciation as kja¹, a technical estimate based on written evidence.
Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the Tangut script into use in 1036 as part of building the state; translating Buddhist texts into Tangut was one major purpose. The script drew on Chinese writing principles while representing Tangut as a distinct language. A 12th-century Tangut Buddhist work preserves 𗷅𗡝, and the surviving collection includes Buddhist translations from Chinese and Tibetan.
What does 𗡝 mean when someone sends it alone?
A lone glyph does not reveal the sender’s intended reading. Ask for the surrounding Tangut text or its source; the documented Buddhist reading belongs to a named compound.
Best read in Tangut-language, Buddhist, or historical context; a lone send needs context.
The code-point label identifies the character; it does not translate it.
