What 𗡭 means
Its Chinese gloss points to “shifting aside” or “distributing.”
Western Xia’s Tangut rulers created this square script in 1036 for government records, Buddhist scripture, and a distinct written identity. Its forms drew on Chinese writing; neighboring Khitan people had already made a state script. Manuscripts from the 12th or early 13th century preserve Buddhist works, Chinese classics, military texts, and literature.
A historical Tangut character; a blank box means the active font cannot draw it.
Chinese 撥 is a dictionary gloss, not a spelling or reading of 𗡭.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗡭 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
