What 𗡷 means
Tangut dictionaries gloss 𗡷 as “wonderful.” Scholars reconstruct its reading as niow².
Tangut writing began as a Western Xia state project about 1036. Its design drew on Chinese and Khitan script traditions, and it served official documents, law codes, and Buddhist translations. After Western Xia fell, Buddhist writing in Tangut continued; the latest-known inscription is dated 1502.
Historical and scholarly; use it when the Tangut word or its reference is clear.
Do not send it expecting readers to understand “wonderful.”
