What 𗢩 means
A character map with Tangut support handles a one-off entry.
For repeated lookup, the Concise Online English–Tangut Dictionary accepts a Tangut character, an English or Chinese meaning, or a phonetic form. As of 2026, it still describes its database as in development, so some entries may be incomplete.
What was Tangut writing used for?
It served Western Xia’s official and cultural life.
The Tangut script was created by imperial order under Emperor Jingzong, a Western Xia ruler, and is conventionally dated to 1036. Preserved Tangut texts include Buddhist works translated from Chinese and Tibetan.
After the Mongol conquest in the 13th century, Tangut fell out of daily use; later scholars could not read its script for centuries.
Why does 𗢩 appear as a box?
Your font may not include Tangut characters.
Without a Tangut-capable font, the glyph may appear as a blank space or a box. Tangut writing draws on Chinese character structure, but it is a distinct script for the Tangut language.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗢩 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
