What 𗢮 means
It means “water spring”: a natural source of groundwater. In Tangut, “spring” names the water source, not the season.
Why does it look Chinese?
Its square forms resemble Chinese, but Tangut is a distinct script. It was created around 1036 under Western Xia’s first emperor to write Tangut, the kingdom’s language. Western Xia ruled parts of what is now northwestern China. The script continued in use after Western Xia fell, into the Yuan and Ming periods; it was obsolete by the end of the Ming and rediscovered in the late 19th century.
