What 𗣤 means
In Tangut, it means “edge” or “boundary.”
A Tangut dictionary lists it as entry 2642.
Why was Tangut writing created?
For Western Xia government and Buddhist texts.
Created in 1036, Tangut writing served Western Xia, a state in northwestern China, and its Buddhist canon; it also carried translations and secular works.
A manuscript fragment from Khara-khoto is probably from the 12th or early 13th century. Tangut inscriptions on Buddhist text pillars at Baoding date to 1502, centuries after the script’s creation. These are dates for the script’s use, not for 𗣤’s first appearance.
This belongs in historical or scholarly Tangut; add a translation for readers who do not know the script.
On a device without a font with Tangut support, 𗣤 may appear as a box.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗣤 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
