What 𗤀 means
Tangut dictionaries gloss it as “life.”
A dictionary records śjij as its reconstructed reading. That Latin spelling is scholarly notation, not an everyday pronunciation guide.
Why does 𗤀 resemble Chinese writing?
It belongs to the distinct Tangut script.
Tangut forms resemble Chinese writing, but they are not Chinese characters. The script was created around 1036 for administration and Buddhist book publishing in the Western Xia (Xixia) state. It continued after the state fell in 1227; the latest known example dates to 1502.
Historical and scholarly.
