tangut ideograph-17918

Tangut character 17918

Text symbol

What 𗤘 means

The glyph needs Tangut context to be read.

𗤘 was used to write Tangut, a language of the Western Xia kingdom. In 1036, Western Xia rulers ordered a writing system for their state. It carried government records, Buddhist translations, legal documents, and classics.

Tangut writing drew on Chinese and Khitan models but remained a separate system. After Western Xia fell, Buddhist texts and inscriptions continued to use it; the latest known Tangut inscription dates to 1502.

Why does 𗤘 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
