Tangut Ideograph 17925

2342/6136

𗤥 is a Tangut character from the writing system used by the Western Xia state, but its exact English gloss is unsettled. A dictionary maps it to an entry with a reconstructed reading, nga—roughly the ng sound at the end of “sing” followed by “a.” As of 2026, the script is mainly encountered in historical research and typography; a box usually signals missing Tangut font support.

What 𗤥 means

It is a Tangut character; its exact English gloss is unsettled.

Tangut, also called Xixia, is the writing system of the now-extinct Tangut language. A Unicode source mapping links this character to entry 3787 in Li Fanwen's Tangut dictionary. A modern pronunciation database reconstructs the entry's reading as nga: the nasal sound at the end of “sing” followed by “a.” That is a sound value, not a translation.

The Tangut script was created under imperial decree around 1036 for Western Xia's official and cultural life. It served government, private writing, and religion, including Buddhist translations. After Western Xia fell to Mongol forces in 1227, Tangut writing continued under Yuan and Ming rule; by the end of the Ming dynasty, the script had become obsolete. Its role shifted from living state script to historical study.

Why does 𗤥 look missing?

A blank box usually means the font lacks Tangut coverage.

𗤥 is text, but its strokes appear only when the app can find a Tangut-capable font. If you see a box or blank, the app's chosen font lacks coverage; the character itself has not changed.

Direct entry needs an editor that supports supplementary-plane Unicode. In an editor with hexadecimal Unicode input, enter U17925; exact keystrokes depend on the editor. If the glyph is still blank, select a Tangut-capable font.

Historical-script and typography context; it is not a normal chat signal.

Why is 𗤥 missing in some apps?

Usually, it is a font issue: the app or fallback font lacks Tangut coverage. A Tangut-capable font can show the character without changing the text.

Can I read 𗤥 as Chinese?

No. Tangut is a separate script for the Tangut language. Its character designs drew on Chinese writing, but that visual connection does not make 𗤥 a Chinese character.
