What 𗤮 means

The code label names the character; Tangut context supplies its reading.

𗤮 is a Tangut character in the Xixia script. “Tangut Ideograph-1792E” is its Unicode label, formed from its code point. It identifies this entry; a Tangut dictionary and a sentence show how the character works in a word.

Why was the Tangut script created?

It served the government and cultural life of Western Xia.

The Western Xia court ordered Tangut writing in 1036. It let the state handle official correspondence in Tangut and marked a distinct political and cultural identity. Tangut drew on Chinese writing, while neighboring Khitan states had created their own scripts earlier; Tangut remained a separate system for the Tangut language.

The script carried Buddhist translations and Chinese histories, moral stories, works on government and military affairs, encyclopedias, and literature into Tangut. A manuscript from Khara-khoto, probably from the 12th or early 13th century, attests to that wider reading life. Tibetan Buddhist influence in Western Xia grew in the late 12th century.

How do I type Tangut?

RIME offers a dedicated Tangut input route.

RIME is an input-method framework. Tangut Cangjie enters characters by their component shapes; other schemes use reconstructed pronunciation, strokes, four-corner codes, or dictionary numbers. Choose a scheme that matches what you know about the character.

As of 2026, Tangut IME Online reports that text entered on one device may fail to display in some mobile apps. The character can remain encoded while the receiving app lacks a Tangut font to draw it.

A historical script character, opaque without Tangut language context.

Treat its code-based name as an identifier, not a translation.

Why is 𗤮 a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
