What 𗤭 means
It is one character in Tangut, a distinct historical writing system. Scholars reconstruct the Tangut reading of 𗤭 as win₄, roughly “win” in English; the subscript is part of the scholarly notation. This reading records a sound, not a translation, and the Unicode label identifies the character rather than defining it.
Tangut script was created around 1036 under Western Xia rule for state-building and a Buddhist scripture collection. It also carried official documents and translations of Buddhist, Confucian, military, and literary works. Khara-Khoto material includes an undated manuscript probably from the 12th or early 13th century.
After Western Xia fell in 1227, the script continued for centuries. A pair of Tangut Buddhist pillars was erected in 1502. Tangut writing drew on Chinese writing and the earlier example of the Khitan script, yet remained distinct; its later life shifted from state and religious writing to preservation and scholarship.
What if 𗤭 looks blank?
A missing glyph usually means the app's font lacks Tangut coverage. The character is drawn by the font, so one app may show a square or fallback while another displays its Tangut form.
For input, use Unicode-hex entry in an editor that supports Tangut, or a dedicated Tangut input method. Such tools include stroke-based and phonetic methods. A font displays the character; an input method enters it.
