What 𗤺 means
A Unicode-aware picker is the practical route. For repeated entry, search for the character or its Unicode name in a picker, or use a Tangut-specific input method.
Is 𗤺 Chinese?
No; it is Tangut writing shaped by Chinese influence. 𗤺 belongs to the Xixia (Western Xia) script, created to write Tangut, the language of the Western Xia state; it is not a Chinese character.
The Tangut emperor Li Yuanhao ordered the script into use in 1036 as part of state-building. It was used for Buddhist translations and texts on Chinese, Tibetan, Confucian, military, and literary subjects.
Medieval manuscripts from Khara-Khoto preserve its use. Tangut writing continued after Western Xia fell in 1227, with use recorded as late as 1502. The Unicode label identifies 𗤺, but not its Tangut reading or meaning; a Tangut dictionary is needed for that.
A historical, specialist character suited to Tangut, history, or type-design contexts.
Without Tangut font support, a recipient may see a box instead of the character.
Drift: As of 2026, modern Tangut work includes scholarly digitization and type design; the script appears in research and digital-font projects, not everyday native-language messaging.
