What 𗥉 means
It is one written character in the Tangut script.
To tell what it means in a passage, read the surrounding Tangut or consult a specialist dictionary; its Unicode label identifies the character but does not translate it.
Why does Tangut writing resemble Chinese?
Tangut drew on Chinese and Khitan writing traditions but remained distinct.
The script was created in 1036–1037 as part of building the Western Xia state. It carried official records and translations. Buddhist writings are prominent among surviving texts, alongside legal, Confucian, military, and literary works.
The earliest example passed down is an official document sent to a military inspector in Guazhou in 1072. Western Xia fell in 1227, but a 1502 inscription shows later use. A large cache of manuscripts found at Khara Khoto in 1908 gave scholars substantial Tangut material to study.
Historical or scholarly in tone; a modern reader needs context to understand it.
Its Chinese-influenced square form does not make it Chinese writing.
