What 𗦴 means
It means coal in Tangut. Published references give two different scholarly reconstructions of its old pronunciation, ²mi'₁ and [me]; the difference is about sound, not meaning.
Tangut fonts may draw the character differently. Unicode's chart glyph is a reference form, not a required design.
Why does 𗦴 appear in a Tangut Buddhist manuscript index?
It marks chapters 101–110 in that index. There it works as a chapter-range label rather than as a word in a sentence.
The Tangut script, used to write the Tangut language, was introduced in 1036 for official and cultural work in Western Xia, a historical Tangut state. Chinese writing influenced its structure, but Tangut characters form a distinct script. After Western Xia fell in 1277, Tangut writing survived on later inscriptions before fading from daily use.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗦴 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
