What 𗧢 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses 𗧢 as “buffalo gnat.” Li Fanwen’s index records “tser” as a reconstructed reading: a scholarly notation for an inferred sound, not a translation.
What was the Tangut script created for?
It served Buddhist translation and Western Xia state writing. The Tangut script took shape around 1036–1037. Its forms drew on Chinese and Khitan scripts, the latter used by a neighboring people, while marking a distinct written identity from the Song dynasty in China.
Tangut writing continued after Western Xia fell, including in later Yuan dynasty records; the latest known inscription is dated 1502.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗧢 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
