What 𗧧 means
It means “to spoil a child” in Tangut. Here, “spoil” means overindulge, not harm or ruin the child.
Unicode’s Tangut names are generated from code points. “TANGUT IDEOGRAPH-179E7” identifies an inventory entry, not a pronunciation or translation.
How old is Tangut writing?
Tangut was the language of the Western Xia state; its writing system is also called Xixia script. The script was created in 1036–37 under Emperor Li Yuanhao and the official Yeli Renrong.
The earliest surviving example identified is a government document sent to a military official in Guazhou in 1072. The state used Tangut writing for administration and teaching; it later carried Buddhist translations and historical, legal, and economic works. Some texts survive from after Western Xia fell.
Tangut characters resemble Chinese writing, but they write a separate language and are not Chinese characters. Scholarship also discusses possible influence from the Khitan script, another writing system used in the region; that broad historical connection does not make this glyph a Chinese form.
