What 𗨩 means
It means “wooden saddle” in Tangut.
It names an actual saddle made of wood, rather than depicting one; scholars reconstruct its reading as pa, roughly pronounced “pah.” Tangut was the language used by the Western Xia state.
Why does Tangut look Chinese?
It is a separate script influenced by Chinese writing.
The Tangut script was established in 1036 for the Western Xia state. Its square forms drew on Chinese models, but its characters belong to a distinct writing system; 𗨩 is not a Han character.
The script served state life: schools taught it, officials used it in documents, and Buddhist and Chinese works were translated and printed in Tangut. After Western Xia fell in 1227, writing continued; a final known example is dated 1502.
How do I type 𗨩?
Use a Tangut input method and a font with Tangut coverage.
A blank box or replacement mark means the selected font lacks this glyph. It does not mean the character has changed.
In a general message, add a gloss if readers need to understand this historical Tangut word.
Its Chinese-influenced form does not make it a Han character.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗨩 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
