What 𗩁 means
In Tangut, 𗩁 names a willow tree. Tangut is the historical language this script was made to write.
Around 1036, Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao sponsored the Tangut script’s creation and assigned court official Yeli Renrong to develop it. Its square forms recall Chinese clerical writing, an older Chinese style, but the script writes Tangut words. It remained in use into the early 16th century, long after the Western Xia state.
