What 𗩙 means
Its documented use is a specific word in one Tangut teaching text.
In line 036 of Grains of Gold Placed in the Palm (the Golden Guide), 𗩙 begins a line. The scholarly reconstruction gives its Tangut reading as “2khie”; the parallel Chinese text begins with 鋪. This documents the character in a particular word and passage.
When was the Tangut script created?
It was developed for the Western Xia state.
The script was created under the first Western Xia emperor around 1036 to write the Tangut language and serve the state's official and cultural life. It appears in official, private, and religious texts. After Western Xia fell to the Mongols, Tangut writing continued under Yuan and Ming rule before falling out of use. Unicode Standard 16.0 describes it as a historical script studied today.
Why does 𗩙 show as a box?
A font with Tangut coverage is needed to display its shape.
This text character gets its form from the active font, so missing Tangut coverage can produce a box or fallback mark. Unicode Standard 16.0 describes historical Tangut as vertical columns read top to bottom and ordered right to left; contemporary practice is horizontal, left to right. A historical quotation may keep the older layout.
Scholarly and historical; it belongs in discussion of Tangut writing.
Its Chinese-like structure does not make it Chinese writing.
