What 𗩵 means
Use a Tangut input method and a Tangut-capable font.
As of 2026, one community Rime-based Tangut input method offers candidate searches by reconstructed Tangut pronunciation, strokes, or a code based on each character’s four corners.
The input method selects the character; the font draws it. Different fonts can give the same encoded character different designs, and a font without Tangut support may show a missing-glyph box.
What is this Tangut character?
It is a character in the Tangut script. The script was created around 1036 under Western Xia’s first emperor to write the Tangut language. Its forms followed Chinese and Khitan writing traditions, but 𗩵 is Tangut, not a modern Chinese character. Tangut writing served official, legal, religious, and literary work.
After Western Xia fell, Tangut writing continued into the Yuan and Ming periods; it became obsolete by the end of the Ming. Its role shifted from public writing to scholarship and preservation. The latest known Tangut inscription is dated 1502.
Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese dictionary and Clauson’s Tangut reference dictionary list 𗩵, and a published reconstruction prints it in context. The Unicode name identifies the encoded character, not its English gloss; use a Tangut dictionary entry and the surrounding passage to translate it.
